Mitsuaki Fujiwara藤原 光暁

Mitsuaki Fujiwara is a photographer and filmmaker based in Tokyo, Japan.

For nearly two decades, his work in documentary filmmaking has taken him from the ice fields of Antarctica to small villages across Asia and Africa, observing landscapes and the lives shaped within them.

In recent years, photography has become the central focus of his practice. Through long-term engagement with specific places and communities, he develops projects that unfold over extended periods of time.

Glaciers, mountains, land and sea are formed through the accumulation of millions of years. Fujiwara's work explores the relationship between these traces of deep time and the lives lived upon them. Whether photographing a landscape or a portrait, he approaches both with the same patient gaze.

約20年にわたりドキュメンタリーの演出を通し、南極の氷原からアジアやアフリカの小さな村々まで、世界各地の風景と人々の営みを見つめてきた。

現在は写真を主な表現手段とし、ひとつの場所や共同体に長く身を置く長期取材を続けている。

氷河や山脈、大地や海は、何百万年もの時間の積み重ねによって形づくられてきた。藤原は、そうした地球の記憶と、その上で営まれる人々の暮らしを見つめながら、長期的な視点で作品制作を続けている。
